Jean Roberts, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Cartel Inns.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 10AM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Michael Roth officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, December 5, 2021, from 2PM until 4PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Main Street, St. Joseph, or Berrien County Cancer Services, 3900 Hollywood Rd., St. Joseph. Jean was born in Lowell, MA, on April 2, 1933, to Mr. & Mrs. George Sanderson. She graduated from Lowell General School of Nursing where she received her R.N. On September 1, 1956, Jean married Maurice Roberts and moved to Michigan in 1958. After a few years of working at Gard School as a teacher assistant, she worked for Berrien County Intermediate Schools until her retirement in 1993. She worked in the field of preprimary special education.
After retirement, she enjoyed volunteer work at Lakeland, C.C.C. and visiting church members in nursing homes and hospitals. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she participated in “Caring & Sharing Ministry” and participated in Christ Care Group.
She was actively involved in volunteering at the Mendel Center for many years and participated for several years in the annual March for Cystic Fibrosis.
Jean is survived by daughters, Debra Jean (Steve) Angvick of Burlington, IL, and Darlene Sue (Mark) Wallner of Cypress, TX; and grandchildren, Julia Avonley Wallner and Olivia Jean Angvick.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents George & Hazel Sanderson and her husband Maurice Roberts.
