Susan's Obituary

Susan Carol Roberts-Schrumpf, 51, of Galien, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at her home.

Visitation will take place from 4-7 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 8, also at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior, from 10-11 am. Interment will follow at Galien Cemetery, Galien. Memorial contributions in Susan’s name may be made to the family, in care of Laurie Wandland to assist with a cemetery stone. Susan was born on April 26, 1972, to Richard and Marilyn (Avery) Schrumpf in Niles. She graduated from Galien High School, class of 1990. Susan embarked on her professional career at the Buchanan Feed Mill where she was employed for many years. Subsequently, she transitioned to a role as a Veterinary Assistant, ventured into entrepreneurship by owning and managing Sue’s Pizzeria in Galien for several years, and ultimately spent over a decade working at Four Winds Casino. Alongside her professional endeavors, Susan remained actively involved in operating the family farm in Galien.

Susan held a special fondness for goats and was known for her sincere and straightforward personality. Her love for family was paramount, and she consistently prioritized their well-being. Susan shared a close bond with her sisters and, above all, embraced the role of a devoted and committed mother. Her son, Dean, brought immense joy to her life, she spared no effort in making sacrifices for his happiness, and she was always happy to do so.

On November 4, 2023, she married Rodney Roberts after nearly twenty years together. The days of planning the wedding, and the wedding day, were some of the happiest of her life.
Susan is survived by her husband, Rodney Roberts; son, Dean Roberts; sisters, Deborah (Steve Johnson), Laurie (Jed) Wandland and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Marilyn Schrumpf and brother, Eric Schrumpf.
