John Edward Custer Jr., 74, of Stevensville, MI passed away Thursday. June 7, 2018 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 15, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3653 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Bishop Charles Randall officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Family History Center c/o Saint Joseph Ward. Those wishing to share a memory of John online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com John was born July 22, 1943 in Brady, TX to Eddie & Margaret (Murphy) Custer Sr. On May 24, 1968 he married Aloma Hillman at the Salt Lake Temple. John worked at the Cook Nuclear Plant as an Operations Instructor for many years. Some of John’s hobbies entailed family history (genealogy), reading, teaching, mowing lawns, family history and traveling. John and Aloma traveled throughout Michigan over the past six years to teach and train congregations how to find, identify, and learn about their ancestors. Most of all he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife Aloma Custer of Stevensville; nine children John (Lori) Custer III of Oro Valley, AZ., Paul (Susan) Custer of Pittsburgh, PA., Kevin Custer of Long Island City, NY., Sharon (Yancey) Jones of Amelia, OH., Brent (Sheri) Custer of Berwick, PA., Brenda (George) Woodward of Wichita Falls, TX., Scott (Mandy) Custer of Kingman, AZ., Christine (Francisco) Velasco of Stevensville, MI., and B.J. (Emmy) Custer of Winchester, VA; and 29 grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Sarah Michelle Custer.
