Edward Spiro Stern passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife of 26 years and family on 4/20/18 after his battle with an extended illness.
During his life here on this earth Edward enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, his grandchildren, playing golf, working out at the YMCA, and running in competitive Easter Seals marathons. Firmly believing as he learned from his mother that “it is never too late” he became a licensed psychologist at the age of 39 and taught psychology at Lake Michigan College for 23 years.
In his retirement years he and his loving wife enjoyed the winters in Florida and the spring, summer, and fall months in Michigan while spending time with their family. In his earlier years he served in the U.S. Army and lost his leg at the age of 17 however, that never stopped Edward’s wonderful drive to be ambulatory and successful. Edward had a zest for life and never considered himself handicapped.
He was preceded in death by his mother Louise (Spiro) Newman, his father Bernard Stern, and his brother Mort Stern.
Survivors include his loving wife Betty Stern, his daughters Julie Ives of St. Joseph, MI, Judith (Bruce) Kerns of Danville, CA, Deborah (Ron) Andree of Keizer, OR, Katrina (Dean) Berres of Morris, IL, Laura (Jeremy) Cionca of Plymouth, MI, Tammy McCarthy of Watervliet, MI, his sons Jon (Sisi) Wessendorf of Rochester Hills, MI, and Edward Stern of Hayward, CA. Edward was blessed with 11 grandchildren. Edward was born in Queens, NY on September 7th, 1932.
