Robert D. “Bob” Crompton, 62, of Baroda, set sail on his proverbial Viking ship for the other side of forever on March 26, 2018 after a short, but brave battle with cancer.
Born in Neu Ulm, Germany on April 13, 1955, Bob moved with his parents and sister while still young, to the United States, where he became a citizen and spent most of his life in Southwestern Michigan.
Anyone who knew Bob, knew he was fond of all things outdoors, his dogs and grand-dogs, music, food, and people in general. He knew how and when to make people laugh, but also sensed when he needed to sit, listen, embrace and cry with them. He would do whatever he was able to make another person’s life better, even if it meant he would do without. He adored his friends, but loved his family fiercely and felt it a blessing any time the two groups could come together to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. He especially enjoyed cookouts, bonfires and adventures, whether planned or spur of the moment. His work ethic is evident now, as we know he worked months in pain, doing what needed to be done to care for himself and his loved ones.
Bob is survived by his dearly beloved wife, Peggy (Irwin) Crompton, his children- Trista and Bobbie Crompton, Laura Hurley, Ryon (Erika) Gaston & Jeremy Gaston, who were his prized jewels, his grandchildren, Lucas, Chloe, Mason, Skylynn & Trinity, his priceless treasures, his sister, Rose (Wayne) Huizenga and her family, and Milli Miles, the mother of his daughters. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories extended family members and life-long friends, including those youth who endeared him as a father figure or second father.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Bridgman American Legion Post #331, 4241 Legion St., Bridgman, Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 2:30 until 4:00 P.M. A benefit in his honor will follow from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., also at Bridgman American Legion. Those wishing to sign Bob’s Memory Book online may do so at
