Roy C. Doss, 81, formerly of Benton Harbor, departed from this life on Thursday morning, December 21, 2017 at his home in Carbondale, Illinois, with his wife Georgia Doss by his side.
Roy was born in Hughes, Arkansas on April 13, 1936 to Virgil & Mamie (Thomas) Doss. Out of this union was born six children in which Roy was the 5th child. Roy started working at a very young age, helping his Father with the family farm. Roy worked most of his life. He retired from the Santa Monica, California Department of Sanitation in 1992. After retirement, Roy spent most of his time traveling, hunting, and at what he loved to do most-“fishing”.
In 1998, Roy became a widow at the passing of his then wife Bernice Virginia Estell. Out of their union was born seven children. Later Roy met and married Georgia Martin and they remained married until his passing.
Roy leaves to mourn his death, his wife Georgia Doss of Carbondale, IL; three children-Freddy (Theresa) Doss of Lancaster, CA, Lavern (Carl) Ripley of Paducah, KY, Delours Doss of State College, PA; six step-children-Lisa Taylor of Grand Rapids, MI, Marie Thomas of Arkansas, Lynn Taylor of Benton Harbor, Patricia (Pete) Edwards of South Bend, IN, Lee Taylor of Elkhart, IN, Tony (Stephanie) Taylor of Carbondale, IL; twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren; a host of step-grandchildren & great-grandchildren; a special nephew Robert Lee Doss and many other nieces & nephews; three in-laws-Leo (Annie) Twilley of Benton Harbor, Annette (Bennie) Doss of Benton Harbor, Minnie Lowe of St. Louis, MO; a host of cousins, loved ones and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his parents Virgil Sr. & Mamie Doss, five siblings-Bennie Doss, Virgil Doss, Jr., Burnett doss, Ruth Doss & Annie (Doss) Twilley, his first wife Bernice V. Doss and four children-Bennie Doss, George Doss, Dean Doss & Mary Jane Doss.
A Celebration of Home Going Service will be held 1:30 P.M. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Grace & Faith Temple, 1211 E. Main St., Benton Harbor, with Rev. Gregory Riddick officiating.
