Betty's Obituary

Betty Jean (Karr) Farnum, 90, died Christmas evening at Caretel Inns of Lakeland, St. Joseph, where she had been a resident for the past couple of years. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will be in Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Caring Circle. Mrs. Farnum was born in Benton Harbor and graduated from Benton Harbor High School. She retired in 1992 from Michigan Fruit Canners, where she worked for many years as a receptionist. For most of her life she lived in the twin city area except for 12 years in Florida after retirement. She was a member of the St. Joseph Elks and Stevensville American Legion ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing. Survivors include: two sons, Thomas (Carlene) Hand of Augusta, GA, and Steven (Lisa) Farnum of Stevensville, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Theodore Farnum, her daughter, Cheryl Whitten, four sisters and three brothers.
