Harold's Obituary
Harold Preston Smith of Benton, Arkansas and formerly of Benton Harbor, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 30, 2017 while visiting friends in Colorado. He was born on November 13, 1940 in Searcy, Arkansas and was a 1958 graduate of Eau Claire High School in Eau Claire, Michigan.
Hal served 6 years in the United States Navy and was in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs Crisis. Hal managed several restaurants in the Michiana, Indiana area and worked as a Chef after he retired and moved to Arkansas. He attended Hurricane Lake Baptist Church in Bryant, Arkansas.
Hal is survived by a son, Harold Jr. of Maynardville, Tennessee and two daughters, Sherry McQueen of Ocala, Florida and her children, Drew and Bret Alwine, and Sandy Yoder and her children Stephanie Shears and Cheyenne of Elkhart, Indiana. He is also survived by two sisters, Frances Betts of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and Judith Ellsworth of St. Joseph, Michigan; special nieces, Kristen Marcera of Rochester, New York and Cyndi Simmons of Port Neches, Texas; and two nephews, David Betts of Green Cove Springs, Florida and Randall Ellsworth of Watervliet, Michigan. Hal was also very blessed with his special friend Pat Lanier, with whom he spent many happy times traveling.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Preston Smith and Euna Ottillia (Holmes) Smith, a brother, Jerry Lee Smith, and two sisters, Donna Jean Perry and Peggy Joan Mazigian.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Arkansas and burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Those wishing to sign Harold’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
