James Starnes

James “Jimmy” L. Starnes, 70, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. A Celebration of Life Service be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, April 28, 2017 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Pastor Kenneth Hawkins officiating. Friends may visit from 11:00 AM until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Tee. Those wishing to share a memory of James online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com  Jimmy was born March 4, 1947 in Chicago, IL to William & Frances (Coulter) Starnes. After graduating high school in Chicago, Jimmy entered the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he moved to Michigan.  Jimmy worked as the housing inspector for the City of Benton Harbor for many years. He then moved on to his true passion sales. He worked for Signature Toyota and Schroeder Motor Mall selling cars for over ten years, before retiring and moving to Chicago. Jimmy was an avid golfer and loved getting together with friends to play. Jimmy is survived by his son James (Elisa) Starnes of Benton Harbor; several cousins and his former wife Rachel Starnes. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and wife Vertis Starnes.
