Elizabeth Hahn, 89, of Benton Harbor, died May 8, 2017 at home in the comforting presence of her family.
Elizabeth was born May 8, 1928 in Hammond, Indiana, to James and Peggy Koutas. As the first child of newly arrived Greek immigrants, she was raised in the rich cultural traditions of her family. She was very active in her church, and had a deep faith and strong convictions.
Every summer as a child, her family would vacation at Silver Beach in St. Joseph, which is where she met her husband Herbert Hahn. They were married in October 1948 and shared 63 years of marriage before his death in 2011. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper and tax accountant for Business Management Service. She spent the last couple years of her life lovingly cared for by her granddaughter Rachel, enjoying dining out on a regular basis and making her famous chocolate chip cookies. Countless friends and family members enjoyed her cookies over the decades. Her church counted on her weekly for a variety of delicious baked goods.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynette and Paul Trautwein; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Melissa Hahn; sister Becky Korellis; granddaughters Rachel Trautwein (Nick Anderson), Cristy (Justin) Kissinger, Sarah (Justin) Dalton, Amy Trautwein, and Kelsey Hahn; great-grandsons Micah and Levi Dalton and Caleb Kissinger; nieces and nephews Kim Korellis, Peter (Maren) Korellis and Peggy Korellis (Antwoine Brown); as well as grandnieces and nephews and a large and loving extended family. She is also survived by step-grandchildren Amanda (Kris) Craig, Jamie Schultz, and Samantha Schultz, and step great-grandchildren Miles, Margo and Max Craig.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herbert, her brother George Koutas, and daughter-in-law Beverly Hahn.
