Doris Molhoek

Doris Molhoek, 86, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Friday April 21, 2017 at her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday April 27, 2017 at First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Dr. Charles Guerreno officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Thursday at the church. Memorial donations in Doris’s name may be made to the Hemophilia Foundation of MI. Those wishing to sign Doris’s guestbook online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Doris was born May 27, 1930 to Willard & Goldie (Schroyer) Menish in Grand Rapids, MI. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1948 and went on to receive her associate’s degree from Grand Rapids Jr. College. Doris was united in marriage on February 17, 1951 to Robert Molhoek in Grand Rapids and they enjoyed 66 years together. She was an assistant to the Chaplin at Ft. Belvoir then went to work at Hawkeye Insurance in Grand Rapids before having children.  Doris was a homemaker and loved gardening. She was an excellent seamstress making suits, coats, dresses and even Halloween costumes for her family. She was active in the community, serving in many capacities, including president, with the local Women’s Service League.  Doris also served in a variety of volunteer positions over several years with the Memorial/Lakeland Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.  She also volunteered in many local Red Cross blood drives. Doris is survived by her husband; children, Timothy Molhoek of New Buffalo, MI, Carolyn Molhoek of Kalamazoo, MI and Barbara Molhoek of Battle Creek, MI; grandchildren, Jennifer, Brad, Devon and Anna and great-grandchild, William. She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings and son Steven Molhoek.
