Lois's Obituary
Lois Helen Fisher, 90, of St. Joseph, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior and to be reunited with her parents, husband, brother and friends on January 22, 2017 at Hanson Hospice in Stevensville, MI.
Lois was born on May 29, 1926 in Muskegon, MI, to Herman and Dolly Miesch, where she was raised Catholic in Muskegon.
If you knew Lois, you know that she was kind to everyone and never said anything unkind that would hurt anyone’s feelings. She was honest, very modest, loving, generous, thoughtful and humorous, even throughout her illness. She had impeccable integrity, grace and poise. She found good in everyone and good in every situation. (the presidential election may have been an exception)
She loved singing and formed a trio of girls who loved to perform. They were invited to sing for the USO for soldiers in WWII. She lived for school dances and especially loved to jitterbug often with her brother “Doc”. She loved cooking, fashion and decorating. She designed three homes which she and Walt built. At 85 years old she redecorated her family room in a bold contemporary style that she had loved throughout her life. At 88, she redid her entire yard in contemporary style landscape that she thoroughly enjoyed. She lived life and said she had no regrets on how she did it.
On June 28, 1947, she married Walter G. Fisher. They met at a roller skating rink where she loved to skate and he was an instructor. She was 14 and he was 19. They stayed in contact throughout WWII and were married 7 years after their first date and celebrated 61 years of marriage.
They enjoyed life by traveling, entertaining, boating, attending Whirlpool functions, shopping and plays in Chicago and New York and they were season ticket holders to Notre Dame Football games for over 50 years. In retirement they wintered in Ft. Myers Beach, FL where they had many friends for over 20 years. Upon moving to St. Joseph, MI she was a member of Methodist Peace Temple in Benton Harbor, MI and she worked for VM Corporation for many years until her daughter Kay was born. She also spent many years volunteering at the hospital. Most of all, she enjoyed time that she was able to be with her family, including trips to Muskegon to see her sister Dollene and family, her brother Donald and family and her parents. Lois and her daughter Kay loved spending time together, and had regular shopping trips, especially taking the South Shore Train to Chicago. She had a special bond with Rob, her son-in-law, whom she enjoyed their one-on-one talks. She loved testing her new recipes on him especially when having a picnic while boating.
In 1977, Lois’ only granddaughter Holly was born and it was one of the highlights of her life. She loved her time with Holly and was always so proud of her. She was lucky to have three great-grandchildren and Holly’s husband John-Paul in her life regularly. They made her laugh and she never got tired of hearing cute stories about all of them. She loved collecting pictures of them and covering the side of her refrigerator with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter G. Fisher, parents, Herman and Dolly Miesch and brother, Donald Miesch.
She is survived by her daughter Kay (Robert) Koern, granddaughter Holly (John-Paul) Laporte, great-granddaughter Isabelle Grace, great-grandsons, Matthew Aiden, and Andrew Francis, sister Dollene (Gary) St. Martin, sister-in-law Darlene Miesch and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Pastor Jim Matthews officiating. Burial to follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
