Nancy Jean Hinkle, 82, of Stevensville, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Pine Ridge Nursing Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2 P.M., Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd., Stevensville, MI., with Pastor David Hills officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on November 20, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana. Nancy was born on June 29, 1934 in Streator, IL, to James & Wilda (Johnson) Gaisford. She graduated with her Bachelors of Science degree from Illinois State University and enjoyed teaching for many years. Nancy married her husband Walt Hinkle in Streator, IL, on August 20, 1955. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Nancy loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also loved sewing, reading, traveling and camping. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida where she had many friends and volunteered for the Give Kids the World Village. Nancy was a lifelong Girl Scout and a member of the Stevensville United Methodist Church. She was a supporter of the American Red Cross. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Telephone Pioneers of America and belonged to the Red Hat Society.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Cindy (Dave) Diekema of Paw Paw, MI; son James (Donna) Hinkle of Elkhart, IN; and her five grandchildren: Jessica (Joel) Fowler, Megan (Casey) Straka, Jay Hinkle, Eddie Hinkle and Katie Hinkle. She is also survived by her sister Judith Feddeler of Streator, IL. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Walt Hinkle, brother James Gaisford and brother-in-law Les Feddeler.
