Amelia's Obituary

Amelia “Amy” Ford, 89, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. Amelia was born January 23, 1927 in Detroit, MI to Walter and Victoria (Nowak) Soroka. She was married to Sherman Ford on Jan. 12, 1952 in Ann Arbor, MI. They had two sons, Daniel and Gordon. Amelia is a graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit and received a B.S. Degree in Pharmacy at Wayne State University. She had been employed at the Peaceness Hospital Pharmacy in Detroit and at the Hospital Pharmacy with the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. With her husband, she was co-owner of Ford LaSalle Drugstore in St. Joseph. Upon retirement, she worked at Lakeland Medical Center Pharmacy, Watervliet Hospital Pharmacy, R.G. Pharmacy, and Belfy Drugstore in Watervliet. She was a member of Lakeland Medical Hospital Volunteers, Burnette Traders Questers, Lambda Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and Great Lakes Glitzy Girlfriend and a Guy. Past membership was in Highcliff Terrace Garden Club, A.Ph.A & Michigan Pharmacist Association. Amelia is survived by her son Gordon (Eliza) Ford of St. Joseph; daughter-in-law Virginia Ford of Santa Fe, NM; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas (Acacia) Ford of Overland Pk., Kansas, Autumn (David) Pohl of Tulsa, OK, Phillip (Megan) Ford of Tulsa, OK, Dylan and Anderson Ford of St. Joseph; great-grandsons Parker and Grayson Pohl of Tulsa, and Oliver Ford of Kansas; step-grandsons, Bret (Virginia) Bays of Japan, and Vance Bays of Dallas, TX; and good friend Megan Ford of Broken Arrow, OK. Amelia was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Sherman Ford; her parents; sister, Evelyn Stanek; and son, Daniel Ford. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:00 P.M. Monday, November 21, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Harris Hoekwater officiating. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
