Edward was born on May 6, 1922 to John Kingsley Barlow and Emma Massell Barlow in St Joseph, MI. His great-grandfather settled in St Joseph in the mid-1800s.  His grandfather helped form what has become Child and Family Services with its current celebration of 125 years. His own father began various businesses with a real estate business operating to this day. He was a tennis champion winning in doubles for St Joseph High School at the state level. Ed earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Illinois where he was also a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He was hired by Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford, CT to inspect aircraft used in World War II. During this time he met his future bride, M. Yvonne McGrane who was living in Washington, DC and working for the American Red Cross. Ed and Yvonne made the Twin Cities of Benton Harbor/St Joseph their home where he became an active part of the Barlow family business. After Yvonne’s death Edward devoted the whole of his attention to caring for his Down Syndrome son, Rick, and could often be seen on their daily walks on the pier, beach, downtown and on the bluff in St Joseph. He rarely missed a sunset. He was a devoted member of St Joseph Catholic Parish, played both tennis and golf as an early member of Berrien Hills Country Club and was a long standing member of The Economic Club. He and Yvonne valued education and shared an appreciation for the creative arts culture in the area. He loved his children and grandchildren and was blessed to enjoy the love of great grandchildren in his long and full life. He is survived by daughters Kay Barlow-Segrave, Mary Beth Marsala and husband, Joe, grandchildren: Maggie Segrave, Emily Cheff and husband Andrew along with their children Alexander and Aiden Cheff, Alan Segrave and his wife Nichole, Carrie Barlow, Tim Barlow and their mother Linda, Chloe Marsala and Peter Marsala.
