Tomson O. Wharton

Tomson O. Wharton, 78, of Stevensville, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 269-556-9450.  Tom was born December 17, 1937 in New Troy, MI to the late Glen and Virginia (Wessels) Wharton. He graduated from New Troy High School in 1956. Tom lived in Stevensville, MI all of his adult life. He worked for Whirlpool for 40 years and retired in 2004. Tom enjoyed deer and turkey hunting while on visits to his cabin in Baldwin; and also enjoyed the occasional opportunities to fish. Later in life he was a seasoned player of black jack at the casino. Tom was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville.  Tom is survived by three sons-Michael of Stevensville, David of Eau Claire and Joseph (Beth) of Stevensville; five grandchildren-Gregory (Amanda) Wharton, Jennifer Wharton, Nicole (Alex) Ferrer, April (Brandon) Thomas and Rebecca (Robert) Dittmer; four great grandchildren-Mia Ferrer, Delano Ferrer, Ariana Ferrer and Raylan Thomas; sister-Mary Hauch-Lee of Bridgman; sister-in-law Shirley Wharton of Stevensville and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents-Glen and Virginia, a son-Steven Wharton, a sister-Naida Wharton-Dare, and a brother-John Wharton.  A Celebration of Life service will take place on Wednesday, August 10, 11:00 A.M., at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church – 2673 W. John Beers, Stevensville, MI. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery. Visitation with the family is on Tuesday, August 9, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel in St. Joseph.
