GEORGE BRUCE GLADE, 95, went to be with his Lord on July 27, 2016, at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph, Michigan. He was born on June 2, 1921 in Pipestone Township, Eau Claire, Michigan to Bruce and Helen (Moore) Glade.
Visitation and service will be Tuesday, August 2 at Starks-Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, Michigan. Friends may visit from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Schmidt of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Shanghai Cemetery.
A 1939 graduate of Benton Harbor High School, he joined his family in farming in Eau Claire. In the 60’s he was Pipestone Township Supervisor, later using his carpentry skill he assisted in construction of several buildings in the Coloma, Watervliet, St. Joe area. As a skilled carpenter with a passion for wood crafting of yard pieces, crosses and angels, he generously shared his time and craft with his church and friends. George was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church where you could find him on Wednesday mornings folding bulletins and sharing fellowship with staff and friends. He was a 67 year Life Member of Elks Lodge #541 in St. Joseph-Benton Harbor where he often joined friends and his childhood friend, Charlie Campbell and his wife, Cathy for Friday suppers. In earlier years, George served 12 years as a chaplain with the Sons of American Legion in Coloma. George lived his last two years at Royalton Manor where he was well liked by residents and staff where he will be remembered for his pleasant smile and friendly manner.
George is survived by his sister, Eleanor (Betty) Robbins of St. Joseph, Michigan; a brother-in-law, Lee Wolff of Largo, Florida; and his nieces and their spouses – Pat and Cliff DeSchaaf of Stevensville, Michigan, Joyce Marquardt of Tallahassee, Florida, Jean and Robert Cecil of Charlevoix, Michigan and Joy and Brian Nardone of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Helen Glade, his sister and brother, Joyce Wolff and Frank Glade and a niece, Kris Wolff Gustitis.
