Marvin J. LaSota, 89, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Lakeland Medical Center – St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Corey Kugle officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph, with Military Rites provided by North Berrien Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. Marvin was born on October 10, 1926 in Chicago, IL to John & Ethel (Czekala) LaSota, Sr. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Marvin married Gerda Ross on May 6, 1950, and they enjoyed nearly 50 years together until she passed away on February 12, 2000. He was a loyal employee at Bendix Corp., working in the quality control department and retiring after 30 years of employment. Marvin was an avid card player, enjoying Pinochle, Euchre and Bridge. He had a fondness for watching Lawrence Welk and even spent time entertaining people with his own accordion playing. Marvin loved cheering for his favorite teams the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed traveling and relished the time he spent with his family on camping trips. Marvin was a member of the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center and the Heritage Museum & Cultural Center, where he and his partner of 4 years, Priscilla Byrns, shared many memories together. Marvin was well liked and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
Marvin is survived by his children, Bruce (Laurie) LaSota of Orlando, FL, Richard (Sabrina) LaSota of St. Joseph, Robert (Lynn) LaSota of Penhook, VA, and Brian (Nancy) LaSota, St. Joseph, MI; grandchildren, Amber (Scott) Lugering, Erin (Michael) Cassidy, Lindsey (Dale) Fredricks, Magan Weber, Sara LaSota, Brandon (Hannah) LaSota, Wes LaSota and Madeline LaSota; five great-grandchildren; and partner, Priscilla Byrns.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gerda LaSota; and siblings, Donald LaSota, Wayne LaSota, Marcia LaBerdia and John LaSota.
