Charles A. Shearer

Charles A. Shearer, 74, of St. Joseph, MI passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Charles was born in Benton Harbor, MI on January 23, 1941 to Charles and Virginia (Abraham) Shearer. He served for six years in the Michigan National Guard and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. On October 10, 1964 he married Dolores Reck. Charles retired from MAC Engineering Co., in Benton Harbor as a Tool Designer after 25 years. Charles loved fishing, hunting, gardening, lawn mower repair and woodworking. Charles is survived by his wife Dolores; children Mark (Janet) Shearer of Farmington Hills, MI and Jennifer (Anson) Arndt of Elgin, IL; grandchildren – Cole and Kayla Shearer and Aidric and Adaleah Arndt; and a sister – Carolyn Ames of St. Joseph. He is preceded in death by a son – David. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 10:00am at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, with Father James Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation is on Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Retina Foundation of the Southwest Macular Degeneration Research or to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
