Shirley Mae Smith, 76, of Benton Harbor, MI passed away at her home Thursday, November 19, 2015.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:00 PM, Monday, November 23, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Deacon Michael Gallagher officiating. Friends may visit from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Shirley was born May 13, 1939 in St. Joseph, MI to Raymond & Mary Katherine (Smith) Goody. She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School. Shirley received her Associates Degree in Management from Lake Michigan College. On November 25, 1956 she wed her high school sweetheart John M. Smith. She retired from Bill Knapps restaurant after 21 years of being the manger. After her retirement she owned and operated Images Café in downtown St. Joseph. Shirley was a member of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce and was involved in the mentoring program at Lake Michigan College for many years. She loved spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband John M. Smith; children Jonathan (Janet) Smith of Benton Harbor, Tammy (Kenneth “Skip”) Myatt of Buchanan, Kristy (Paul) Kemnic of Wyoming, MI and Cory M. Smith of Benton Harbor; grandchildren Shiloe (Jeremy) Wines, John Cody Smith, Katherine Marie (Brandon) Cattes, Brandi (Bradley) Arendsen, Bianca Mildred Kemnic, Tyler Ray Kemnic, John Micheal Myatt, Nicklaus Allen Myatt and Stacy Kay (Justin “Jay”) Emmanuel; sister Sue Ann (Jimmy) Winders and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Edward Goody and sister Margaret Blythe.
