Richard Edinger, 86, of Grand Rapids, MI, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in Grand Rapids.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 14, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Three Oaks, MI. Richard was born March 31, 1929 in South Bend, IN to Lynn and Catherine (Snodgrass) Edinger. At the age of five Richard moved with his family to Harbert on Lake Michigan, where his first job as a child was milking Carl Sandburg’s goats. He attended Three Oaks High School and graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising/Journalism in 1950. Richard served his country in the Korean War from 1952 – 1954 as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force. He worked in advertising for the remainder of his career for: Heath Co. of St. Joseph, Rumrill Hoyt Advertising of NY, Leo Burnett of Detroit, John Netedu Agency and Paxon Advertising both of St. Joseph, and finally opening his own agency, Edinger Advertising in St. Joseph from which he retired in 1995.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Mark) Jary of Grandville, MI; grandchildren, Hannah, Andrew, Madeline and Tessa of Grandville, MI; and cousin Marilyn Bowker of Williamston, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene in 2002, son Mark in 2007, and brother Robert in 2009.
