Richard's Obituary

Richard Leroy Grose, died Sunday in St. Joseph, MI.  He was 92. Richard was born in Canton, OH to the late Mary A. (Rowe) Grose and LeRoy T. Grose.  The move to St. Joseph, MI, as a boy, would be the beginning of a long life spent in the community.  It is here that he would meet his wife, raise his family, build a business, and create a life for himself. After graduating from St. Joseph High School he attended Ohio Wesleyan University and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity before enlisting in the military during WWII.  As a pilot flying P51 Mustangs, he achieved the rank of Captain and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.  His honorable service with the 31st  Fighter Group of the 309th Squadron included being downed in an air battle over Yugoslavia. Richard was married to Beverly Fisher on November 7, 1944.  Both were avid and competitive golfers and long-time members of Point of Woods Country Club.  His passions also included tennis, skiing, reading, jazz music, and driving too fast.   His love of art was expressed through photography, which enhanced his professional career, and through his beautiful wood carvings that were occasionally displayed at the Krasl Art Center but mostly enjoyed by family and friends in their home.  Richard spent the majority of his career in advertising, enjoying his success at the Advertising (Ad) Workshop and GroseJohnsonRauhoff.  During his career, he created a scholarship fund for St. Joseph High School students wishing to pursue art education in college.  He was involved in a wide range of civic and social activities and believed in the people and the community of St. Joseph, MI. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly (Fisher) Grose.  He is survived by his long-time companion Jeanne Tosi; his brother-in-law Mercer (June) Fisher; his sons Jeffrey R. (Nancy) Grose and Timothy Grose; his adoring granddaughters Kelley S. (J. Steven) Stewart, Amy K. (Christian) Brown, and Nataly Grose, and beloved great-grandchildren C. Ryan Stewart, Abagail Brown, W. Collin Stewart, Caroline Stewart, Christian (Chet) Brown, and Tobin Brown. Per his wishes, no funeral service will be held, but family will gather to celebrate his life.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Lest We Forget, an organization helping to preserve the memories of those who have served.  If you would like to share a personal memory or condolences, to be readwith the family, please send your thoughts to: Amy K.
