Alfred's Obituary

Alfred G. Hester, 67, of Benton Harbor, passed away, Thursday, November 27, 2014. A Celebration of Home Going Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Dr., Benton Harbor, with Rev. Andrew Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma, with Military Rites provided by North Berrien Military Rites Team.  Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 A.M. Alfred was born December 20, 1946 in Chatfield, Arkansas to Earnest & Estella (McClendon) Hester.  Alfred professed his faith in Christ at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Chatfield Arkansas in 1958.  He graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1966 and went on to serve his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  Alfred was a Semi Truck Driver, owned and operated A. G. Transport for many years before retiring. He was a member of Teamsters Local #7 Kalamazoo, a fan of the National Hot Rod Association & owned his own car for many years.  Alfred also was a classic car buff and was most proud of his 1927 Model T which he entered in many shows and won many awards. Alfred is survived by his siblings-Ida B. Meeks, Ernest (Inez) Hester, Doris (Frank W.) Cooper, Russell Hester of Benton Harbor, Lula Rolfe of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gloria (Roy) Shurn of St. Joseph; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends too numerous to list.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Gregory Hester in 1988.
