Martha Stubel

Martha Stubel, 86, of Stevensville, went to meet her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, October 03, 2014 at Pine Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stevensville.  Celebration of Life Eternal Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Napier Parkview Baptist Church, 245 W. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor, with Dr. J.O. Hosler officiating.  Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.  In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Napier Parkview Baptist Church.  Those wishing to sign Martha’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.  Martha was born October 18, 1927 in Solomka, Volhynia, Poland to Henry & Olga (Rapske) Wittmaier. She completed her primary education and went on as a teenager to baking school-a valuable trade which she used throughout her life.  On February 16, 1946, she married Ewald Stubel in Luebteen, Germany.  In December 1951 the family immigrated from Europe to Leona, Kansas and in December 1952 moved to Benton Harbor-St. Joseph.  Martha was employed at Imperial Printing in St. Joseph, Patterson Printing in Benton Harbor, and retired from Whirlpool Corp.  Martha was a charter member of Napier Parkview Baptist Church where she was active on the hospitality committee.  She had a passion for baking and enjoyed knitting & crocheting.  Martha always had treats for the neighborhood kids when they came to visit.  Martha is survived by her children-Norbert (Jeanne) Stubel of South Bend, IN, Rita (Brent) Braddock of Berrien Springs; three grandsons-Brent Stubel, Adam (Abby) Braddock, Justin (Katelyn) Braddock; three great grandchildren-Darcy, Theodore & Daizy Braddock; her sister Alma (John) Bettig of St. Joseph; her brother-in-law Oskar (Ella) Stubelt of St. Joseph; nephews & nieces-Frank (Laura) Bettig, Harry (Eileen) Bettig, Jeffery (Vicki) Bettig, Gloria (David) Droge, Ed (Silvana) Stubelt & Romy (Brandon) Trout.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Harry Wittmaier.
