Mary O'Malley

Mary O’Malley, 81, of Benton Harbor, was called back to her Lord on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at peace with herself and her surroundings. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 A.M. Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church, 600 Columbus Ave., Benton Harbor, with Fr. William J. Jacobs, Jr. officiating. Private burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday with Prayers recited at 7:30 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mary was born February 4, 1933 in Bloomington, Indiana to Edward & Regina (Williams) Tierney. She graduated from Mercy High School and from DePaul University both in Chicago. She retired as supervisor from Lakeshore Studios in St. Joseph, and volunteered as a counselor at Birthright and the Diet Center. She devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren. Mary was a member of St. John-St. Bernard Parish, was an avid reader, and enjoyed the time spent with her “Church Ladies” at Café Tosi’s in St. Joseph. Mary is survived by her husband Jim; five children, Michael (Lisa) O’Malley of St. Joseph, Kitty (Ray) Baltos of Buffalo, MN, Patrick (Julie) O’Malley of St. Joseph, Thomas (Lori) O’Malley of Scotts, MI, Christopher (Lynda) O’Malley of Belmont, MI; twelve grandchildren-Cortney (Ian) Septoski, Meghan (Troy) Gutzwiller, Nick (Krystal) Baltos, Kevin (Amanda) O’Malley, Kristin (Kenn) LaJoice, Ryan Shultz, Eric Shultz, Tyler Shultz, Evan O’Malley, Colin O’Malley, Madelyn O’Malley & Jack O’Malley; six great-grandchildren-Gavin, Preston & Lincoln Gutzwiller, Quinn & Paige Septoski, and Desmond LaJoice; and her sister Jean (Bill) Kelleher of Evanston, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Patricia Tierney and two brothers-Edward & John Tierney.
