Angelo M. “June” Costanza Jr., 72, of Sodus, was called home to the Lord at his home on Friday, September 27, 2013, surrounded by his loving family after fighting a heinous battle of cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 East Delaware Avenue, Benton Harbor with Father William Jacobs Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 with the rosary recited at 7:30 P.M., at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd, St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials that will support the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center – Prostate Cancer Research Program. Angelo was born February 6, 1941 in Independence, LA. to Angelo and Nancy (Rumfola) Costanza, SR. He was a 1959 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. On July 8, 1972 he married the former Sharon Vergon of Sodus. A few of the places Angelo was employed with throughout the years were Modern Plastics, Cadillac Overall Supply and Lomonaco’s Super Market on Territorial. In 1980, Angelo owned and operated Costanza’s Super Market in Berrien Springs along with his wife, children and father-in-law Elwood Vergon for 21 years before retiring in 2001. Thereafter, Angelo continued to fulfill a dream and became partners with his son Brett, and they created A & B Costanza Farms together before permanently retiring in 2011. He then enjoyed traveling with his wife Sharon to Florida, and spending time with his precious grandchildren Charles and Courtney, Sydnee, Taylor and Joseph, and Emily Erik, Joshua and Ashley – the loves of his life. Angelo also enjoyed watching sports and the weather channel on television. Angelo is survived by his wife Sharon; his children Nicole Costanza Hilsenbeck (Jeremy Miller) of Temperance, MI, Brett (Jennifer) Costanza of Sodus, Tina (Pat) Perigard of Harbor Springs, MI and Gina Kruck of Berrien Springs, MI; his brothers Jake Costanza of Benton Harbor and Russell Costanza of Sodus; and grandchildren Charles and Courtney, Sydnee, Taylor, Joseph and Emily, Erik, Joshua & Ashley. He was preceded in death by his father Angelo, Sr. in 1984, mother Nancy in 2001, brother Louis in 1969, sister Francis in 1988 and an infant brother Joseph. Thank You to my mom for caring for my dad at home for the past 6 months. I love you dad, miss you and think about you every day. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Alva at the University of Michigan Cancer Center for caring for Angelo, his aid Toni, Lori our family member, Hospice Services and the prayers, love and support from family and close friends during the brief difficult time.
