Burton K. Snyder, 92, of Stevensville, MI went to be with The Lord on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland, St. Joseph, MI. Burt was born October 24, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Harry & Anna (Van Der Grinten) Snyder. After high school, Burt attended Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, graduated October 31, 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy on February 1, 1944. Burt proudly served his country as a Navy Lieutenant on LST’s in the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets during World War II, and was honorably discharged on July 9, 1946. On April 17, 1956 he wed Janet Ella Moore at First Presbyterian Church in River Forest, IL. Burt worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory, retiring in September 1983 after 27 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 568 in Stevensville, the Navy Memorial Foundation, the United States LST Association, a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville, and served as the chairman of Boy Scout Troop 51 for 17 years. Burt was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Janet in 1996, and brothers Harry Snyder, Howard E. Snyder and sister Juanita R. Snyder. He is survived by his sons Mark (Susan) Snyder of Citrus Heights, CA, Paul (Nancy) Snyder of Willamsburg, VA and John (Donna) Snyder of Hamilton, OH; grandchildren David (Ana Maria) Snyder, Julianna Snyder, Lori Snyder, Rebecca (Thomas) Hughes, Amy (Brian) Williams, Jonathan Snyder, Benjamin Snyder, Caleb Snyder and Hannah Snyder. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, November 15, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, MI, 49085, with Rev. Dr. Dennis Smith and Rev. Wayne Shearier officiating. Friends may visit from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Memorial contributions to Hospice at Home, c/o chapel address above.
