Alma's Obituary

Alma Schewe, 72, of Stevensville, went to meet her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, July 26, 2013 at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God. Those wishing to sign Alma’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Alma was born April 8, 1941 in Kameneck, Warthegau, Germany to Arthur & Olga (Stadelmeier) Lotto. On October 24, 1959 she married Walter Schewe in Benton Harbor. Alma was employed as a cook at Lakeshore Middle School from 1990 until 1998. She was a former member of the German Church of God in Benton Harbor where she sang in the choir & a member of First Church of God in St. Joseph. Alma enjoyed knitting, traveling, bird watching, flowers, and family time especially with the grandchildren. Alma is survived by her husband Walter; her children-Harold (Kimberly) Schewe of Macedonia, OH, David Schewe of Stevensville, Lisa (Kevin) Hackbarth of Spring Lake, MI; eight grandchildren-Harold (Angela) Schewe, Zachary (Kate) Schewe, Jessica (Derek) Prusa, Trace, Blake & Nate Schewe, Elyse & Amelia Hackbarth; two great-granddaughters Emma & Olivia Schewe; and two sisters-Traute (Herb) Schultz of Ontario, Canada, Esther (Dennis) Sonnenburg of San Diego, CA; several nieces & nephews, and her canine companion Hershey. She was preceded in death by her parents, by a sister Edith Lotto, and a brother Siegfried Lotto.
