Dorothy Kroening

Dorothy Kroening, 81, of Sodus, MI went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. The Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 1, 2013 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1965 Broadway in Benton Harbor with Pastor Paul Naumann officiating. An inurnment will be held at Riverview Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph and also on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the church. Dorothy was born July 5, 1931 in Berlin, WI to Frederick and Edith (Verick) Schroeder. She graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary and Dr. Martin Luther College. She was a teacher at St. Matthews Lutheran School in Benton Harbor. On July 6, 1957 she married Alvin Kroening in Pigeon, MI. Dorothy was very active in her church; playing the organ and singing in the choir were just a few ways in which she served her Lord. Dorothy was also involved with the Berrien County Youth Fair in the Home Ec. Building. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her sons Karl (Kristan) Kroening of Stevensville, Scott (Diane) Kroening of Reno, Nevada; daughters Beth (Larry) Klug of Baroda and Jean (Christopher) Avery of Kenosha, WI; 9 grandchildren Katie (Kenneth), Maren (Joseph), Rachel (Alex), Josephine, Cassidy, Carissa, Jacqueline, Ashlee (Jeremy), and Jennafer (Travis); 2 great grandchildren, Avary and Ashtyn; brother Ron (Jerry Lee) Schroeder. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Charles Schroeder.
