John's Obituary
Dr. John Turner, of St. Joseph, passed away on April 1, 2013. He was 95 years old.
Dr. Turner practiced medicine in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, and was on the staff at Memorial Hospital, which in now Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Dr. Turner moved his family to the twin cities in 1960 and practiced medicine until 1981, when he retired. Prior to that, Dr. Turner had a medical practice in the Detroit area for ten years.
After retiring, Dr. Turner and his wife, Helen, moved to Camp Verde, Arizona where they lived for three years. In 1985, they moved back to Michigan to be closer to family and friends.
Dr. Turner graduated from Wayne State University, and Wayne State Medical School. Dr. Turner completed his internship at Highland Park General Hospital and his residency at Grace Hospital in Detroit. Following his residency, Dr. Turner passed his boards, becoming a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist. He also served as a Captain in the United States Army during WWII. In his free time, Dr. Turner was an avid reader and golfer.
Dr. Turner is survived by his daughter, Linda (Barry) Tatom of Michigan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and his son, John Turner. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel.
