William's Obituary
William “Bill” Galbreath, 90, of Stevensville passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph.
William was born September 14, 1922 in Hartford, MI to Stanton & Margaret (Cronin) Galbreath. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1939 and then attended Western Michigan University where he received his Master’s Degree. He served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater. William spent over 28 years in public education in Michigan as teacher, principal, and superintendent of the schools. His last service was with Lakeshore Schools as Assistant Superintendent from 1965 through 1980. William & Ida also hosted eight German exchange students.
William was a member of the American Association of Schools Administrators and the American Schools Business Officials and the Michigan Chapters of those organizations. He served as Lincoln Township Supervisor from 1980 through 1984 and was Charter President of the Lakeshore Rotary Club and served as Governor of Rotary District 636 in 1978-1979. William was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
William is survived by his wife Ida Galbreath of Stevensville and several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Marybelle Reid, Peggy McCall and Betty Webb and three brothers James Galbreath, Robert Galbreath and Richard Galbreath.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit from 2-4 P.M. and 5-7 P.M. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Rotary Club Foundation, Hospice at Home or the Lakeshore Excellence Foundation.
