Robert's Obituary

Robert Steven Westerhof, 55, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. With the love and support of his faithful wife Sheri, Bob fought the good fight against cancer. His strength, determination and will to live will always be an inspiration to those who knew Bob. He was a graduate of Michigan State University where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. An avid MSU fan, Bob loved his Spartans! Bob was always quick to help anyone that needed it. So much so that he was known as “Love that Bob.” Bob began his professional life at Phillips Petroleum in Sweeny, Texas and ended his career working at Palisades Nuclear Plant. Bob enjoyed making friends and socializing with his co-workers as well as playing recreational sports. The family appreciates the excellent care Bob received from the University of Michigan Liver Transplant Unit & the excellent medical care of Dr. Shaun Pelletier and Dr. Chris Sonnenday, as well as the loving care of Dr. Mark Zalupski from the University of Michigan Cancer Center. Bob is survived by his loving wife Sheri, Son Shawn (Sheila) Westerhof, Daughter Liz (Ryan) Vartoogian, daughter Alexa Westerhof, Brother Jim (Cindy) Westerhof, Brother David (Coleen) Westerhof, His Father Elmer (Patricia) Westerhof, and Grandaughter Ava Westerhof as well as many other family members. Bob was preceded in death by his mother Ruth. It was Bob’s fondest wish that for his visitation and celebration of life service everyone would come dressed in Green and White. Please honor Bob’s last wish. GO GREEN GO WHITE! A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday at First Church of God 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday and from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.
