Dorothy's Obituary

Dorothy Marie Chancey (Carnaghi), 89, lifelong Grosse Pointe Park, MI resident, died Monday, January 16, 2012 with family by her side. She was born August 5, 1922, in Detroit, to Joseph Primo and Margaret (Oldani) Carnaghi. She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe, Michigan where she earned the coveted “7-Sport Academy Pin” which is only given to one student annually, an irony not lost with the fact that in her adult life, she had five knee replacements due to rheumatoid arthritis. But that never stopped her determination to take on any of the challenges that life offered. In her later years, she moved to St. Joseph, MI to live with her son Jeff and his family. Mrs. Chancey is survived by her children Valerie (Dennis) Parks, Harry, Mark, John (Jamee), Jeff (Diane) and Greg, grandchildren David, Jessie, John, Jennie, Chris, Sarah, Melissa and great grandchildren Henry and Penny. She was predeceased by her husband Harry Joseph, granddaughter Merrill, and her parents. She was one of thirteen children. Mrs. Chancey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose courage and perseverance over physical adversity inspired all who knew her. She will be especially remembered for her dedication to her Church, St. Clare of Montefalco in Grosse Pointe Park, MI, which her father helped build. She was also known as Mom and Grandma who sat in the front pew at St. Joseph Catholic Church locally in St. Joe. She volunteered tirelessly at Bon Secours and Beaumont Hospitals in Grosse Pointe, MI and her “skill and winning record” playing the board game of Pollyanna was unmatched by any other. She will be deeply missed. The Rosary will be recited on her behalf at 9:30AM and a Memorial Mass at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at St. Clare of Montefalco Church in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Relief Services via crs.org or by mail to: Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21203-7090.
