Eleanor's Obituary

Eleanor E. Shroeder-Tate, 77, of St. Joseph, passed away on October 26, 2011 at Caretel Inns of St. Joseph, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph with Pastor Bob Confer officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM just prior to the service at First Church of God. Interment will take place at Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Children’s Life Line, First Church of God – Faith Promise Fund or Berrien County Humane Society. Those wishing to leave a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Eleanor was born on February 14, 1934 to Ernest and Maria (Schmidt) Schroeder in St. Joseph, MI. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1952 and was employed as a bookkeeper in several businesses in St. Joseph from 1952 to 1969. Eleanor and her husband, Barney Bob Tate, moved to San Jose, CA in 1969 where Eleanor worked as the office manager and bookkeeper for her husband’s business. In 1988 they retired and relocated to South Lake Tahoe, CA. While in Lake Tahoe, Eleanor and Bob started a Friendly Visitor’s Program in which they worked with the elderly and handicapped; visiting, shopping for them, taking them to doctor’s visits and just being a good friend and listener. She was a volunteer for the South Lake Tahoe Humane Society and was president for one year before relocating to Camino, CA. Eleanor had a great love for animals, nature, doing yard work, growing roses and vegetables and enjoyed being outdoors. Eleanor is survived by sisters, Delores (Fred) Knaak and Edith (Chas) Noack; brothers, Elmer (Renee) Schroeder and Eugene (Marilynne) Schroeder; fifteen nephews and nieces, Robert (DeeAnn) Knaak, Mark (Jeannie) Knaak, Teresa McCurdy, Carol Burke, Jill Noack, Mary Beth Noack, Elaine (Glenn) Moore, Nancy Schaper, Sharon (Jay) Rice, Sherrie (Tim) Wetzel, JoAnn (Steve) Ertman, Kirk (Debbie) Schroeder, Scott Schroeder, Michael Schroeder, Kris Olsen. She is also survived by numerous great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her mother in 1967, her father in 1972, a nephew Terry Schroeder in 1969, a brother Allen in 2004 and her loving husband in 2003.
