Marian's Obituary

Marian G. Mollhagen, 83, of St. Joseph passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Royalton Manor Nursing Home. Marian was born on December 29, 1927 in Dickinson North Dakota to Josephine (Munson) and Warren Knaub. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Lee (Wanda) Knaub, Glen (Lillian) Knaub, Kenneth (Florence) Knaub, Wayne (Dorothy) Knaub, Raymond (Virginia) Knaub, and one sister, Ethel (Matt) Olson. Marian graduated from Ypsilanti High School, in Ypsilanti, Michigan on June 15, 1945. She then attended The Grand Rapids School of Cosmetology/ Beauty Culture School. Upon graduation the school placed her in a job at (Kate) Kingsley's Beauty Salon in Benton Harbor, MI. She met and married the love of her life Lloyd Mollhagen at Gersonde's Bowling Alley in St. Joseph. They wed on June 19, 1948 in Cobb, Wisconsin. Lloyd (Moe) Emerson Mollhagen Jr. was a fourth generation commercial fisherman in St. Joseph, Michigan. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1995. After many years as a beautician, Marian was one of the original (donut dollies) employed at MacKenzie's Golden Brown Bakery at the Court House Square in St. Joseph. Marian took pride in raising her two daughters, Susan Kay (David) Johnson, and Sally Ann Mollhagen. She is also survived by an “adopted” daughter and special friend Nancy L. Green., a very special and much loved Sister (in-law) Wanda (Lee) Knaub, and many nieces and nephews. Marian loved all of her special angels at Royalton Manor Nursing Home, and Hospice at Home Team Members. Marian had a wonderful sense of humor and playful spirit. She cherished her family and loved her friends dearly. She enjoyed square dancing, swimming, boating, shopping, and spending winters in Florida. There has been a private burial at Riverview Cemetery with a Celebration of Life Service planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marian's memory can be made to Hospice At Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI. 49085. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel.
