Lyle's Obituary
Lyle H. Schpok, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away, Wednesday, January 05, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph due to complication from pneumonia.
Graveside Services will be held Noon Friday, January 7, 2011 at B'nai Sholom Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Memorials may be made to Temple B'nai Shalom or Lakeland Hospice. Those wishing to sign Lyle's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Lyle was born July 31, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Moses & Bertha (Sexner) Schpok. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1954, and from Michigan State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Lyle served his country in the US Air Force following the Korean War. He was employed at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland from 1963-1964, at Don's Shoes from 1969-1992, and at Elder Beerman from 1992 retiring in 2001. Lyle was a member of Temple B'nai Shalom in Benton Harbor, and Lakeshore Masonic Lodge #298. He enjoyed politics, current events, and football-rooting for the Michigan State Spartans & the Detroit Lions.
Lyle is survived by his brother Irwin (Barbara) Schpok of Manchester, NJ; two nieces-Katherine J. Schpok of Oswego, IL & Kendra S. Schpok of Golden, CO; nephew David E. Schpok of Merchantville, NJ; three great-nieces-Krystal Collins, Elizabeth Schpok, & Rebecca Schpok; a great-nephew James Schpok; cousins-Michael (Marta) Lieberman, Larry Lieberman & Danny (Karla) Lieberman, all of St. Joseph, Cantor Robert (Rabbi Vickie) Lieberman of Syracuse, NY, Iris (Al) Vanderhoof of St. Joseph, & Harriet Israel of Bllomfield Hills, MI; and a special friend Robert Lesch of Minneapolis, MN. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents.
