Mamie's Obituary

Mamie DiMatteo, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 peacefully at her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30am, Friday, December 17, 2010 at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph with Father William Jacobs Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 5:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday, December 16, 2010, at the funeral home. Mamie was born June 21, 1923 in Michigan City, Indiana, to Phillip and Rose (Gagliardo) Salerno. On December 4, 1945, she married Joseph DiMatteo. Mamie was a homemaker, enjoyed her grandchildren, and was known for her spaghetti and meatballs. Mamie is survived by her husband Joseph DiMatteo of St. Joseph; four daughters Toni (Tracy) Karnavas of New Mexico, Joann Poschke of TN, Mary Rapaich of Bridgman, and Chris DiMatteo of Indiana. Nine grandchildren Chris and Courtney Linn, Jill O'Daniel, Joy Rathnan, Joey Poschke, Allie and Bernadette Rapaich, Michael and Patrick Mashke; nine great grandchilgren; one sister Rosalie McDonald of St. Joseph. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents and brother Joey Salerno.
