Marie F. Tompkins

Marie F. Tompkins, 83, of St. Joseph, went to meet her Lord & Savior Monday, June 28, 2010 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 5, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Rick Blumenberg officiating. Memorials may be made to the Well of Grace Ministries. Those wishing to sign Marie's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mrs. Tompkins was born May 5, 1927 in Pontiac, Michigan to Harold & Emma (Fink) Werderman. She graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio with a Bachelor's degree in nursing. Marie was employed for twenty-five years as a Registered Nurse at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan. In 1950, she married Ralph J. Tompkins in Romeo, Michigan. After retiring, Marie & Ralph moved to Briny Breezes, Florida where they enjoyed many good times with the friends that they made. In 2008, Marie moved to St. Joseph to be close to her family here. Marie was a member of the First Church of God in St. Joseph. She cherished the time spent with her children & grandchildren, and her friends in Briny Breezes. In her spare time, Marie enjoyed quilting and playing Bingo. Marie is survived by three sons-David (Mitzi) Tompkins of St. Joseph, Dean (Sara) Tompkins of Marquette, MI, Douglas (Patrice) Tompkins of Big Sky, Montana; six grandchildren-Deke, Jimmy, Fritz, Christopher, Emma, & Matthew Tompkins; her sister Margaret (Marvin) Metz of Romeo, MI; and her brother Edwin (Phyllis) Werderman of Romeo, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in 1999.
