Helen L. Prouty, 86, of Grand Rapids formerly of Benton Harbor passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with pastor J.O. Hosler officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Helen was born August 30, 1923 in Benton Harbor, MI to Albert & Marie (Ruff) Skibbe. On June 27, 1953 he married Charles Prouty in Eau Claire, MI. Helen worked for Cutlers Infant Wear as a bookkeeper for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed volunteering at the Veterans Home in Grand Rapids and at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph. She also enjoyed gardening. Helen is survived by her brother Richard (Carole) Skibbe of Eau Claire, MI; several nieces and nephews; long time friend Eleanor Anderson of Benton Harbor. Helen is preceded in death by her parents and husband Charles.
