Lewis C. Stryker, 94, of Stevensville, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 at Crown Pointe Senior Living Community .
A Celebration of Life Eternal Memorial Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Fairplain Presbyterian Church, 210 W. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor. Memorials may be made to Fairplain Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Mr. Stryker was born May 11, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to Edwin L. & Emma E. (Clark) Stryker. On July 10, 1938 he married the former Isabel Haskin in Wilmette, Illinois. They celebrated nearly seventy-one years of marriage before her passing on June 9, 2009. Lewis served his country in the US Army during WWII stationed in Europe. He was employed in Illinois by the United States Post Office, and in the early 1960's moved to St. Joseph to manage Foam Forms in Galien. When the company decided to move its operations back to Chicago, he took employment with Quality Packaging in Benton Harbor so he and his wife could stay in Michigan to be near family. Lewis was an active member of the Fairplain Presbyterian Church and a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Mr. Stryker is survived by his sister-in-law Frances Karnes of Stevensville; nieces & nephews-Larry (Susy) Karnes of Mason, MI, Judy Karnes of St. Joseph, Wendy (Robert) Bowen of San Marcos, CA, Don (Kim) Karnes of Stevensville; great-nieces & nephews-Kelly Brown of Chicago, Jessica Karnes of Indianapolis, Tyler Karnes of Kalamazoo, Abby Karnes of St. Joseph, David Karnes of Washington, DC, John Karnes of Grand Rapids, MI. He was, in addition to his wife, preceded in death by his brother George Stryker and a great niece Tracy (Aaron) Lindsley of Kalamazoo in September 2007.
