Anna's Obituary
Anna Esther Bloom, age 93, was born on March 30, 1916 in Newark, New Jersey to Sam and Jennie Silberman. Her family moved from Newark, N.J. to Brooklyn, N.Y. Then the family moved to the following cities where they opened cheese plants. Those cities being Lancaster, PA., Jamesville, WI., and finally settled in her beloved Lima, Ohio in 1930. She attended Ohio State University as a young adult, and married Yale Bloom in 1934. Yale died in 1989. He remained an integral part of her daily thoughts and conversations until the day she died. She was very proud of Yale and his generosity to community, friends, and family. They had two children, Marty, of Hilton Head, S.C. and Judi of St. Joseph, MI.
Besides being devoted to her family, Anne contributed to the local community in many ways. She served as a volunteer at St. Rita’s Hospital for 35 years and was an active member of Shaare Zedek Synagogue and later Temple Beth Israel. She served the world community through her passionate commitment to the work of Hadassah Foundation. Anne was instrumental in orchestrating the planting of countless trees in Israel.
Anne was an avid reader. There was seldom a time she was seen without knitting and crocheting afghans and sweaters for her children, grandchildren, and friends. Some of these afghans were auctioned off for local fundraisers. Anne received much pleasure while others enjoyed and appreciated her craft. Anne moved to St. Joseph, MI. in 2000. There wasn’t a day that went by without a story or reference to Lima, Ohio.
Anne was so proud of her two children, her five grandchildren, and her fourteen great-grandchildren. She enjoyed many family celebrations and reunions, and was so pleased by the close bonding of her loved ones.
She is survived by her children Marty ( Dr. Laura) Bloom, and Judi (Don) Bleich. Her grandchildren are Dr. Robert Bloom, Dr. Michael Bloom, Kim Asher, Tracy Bleich Portnoy, and Amy Bleich Heugel. Her great-grandchildren are Jennifer, Jeffrey, and Rachel Bloom, Adam, Sarah, and Ellie Bloom, Andrew, Kallie, and Aaron Asher, Benjamin, Zachary, and Sarah Portnoy, and Evan and Alex Heugel. She has many beloved nieces and nephews. A special niece is Karen Scott who was a major support in her life.
She was preceded by her parents and siblings: Sam, Jennie, Alfred and Trudy. She was very close to them and they are now together for eternity.
Anne was a very refined, intelligent, and elegant lady who loved fashion. She always took pride in looking her best and will be sorely missed by her family and special friends. During her last year she became close to her several caregivers who made her final moments comfortable, safe, and peaceful.
