Thomas's Obituary
Thomas A. Bisnett, 60, of Dowagiac, passed away in his sleep, from his 8 year struggle with MSA, Multiple Systems Atrophy on Thursday, March 5, 2015.
At his request he will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 9th, 2015 at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 51841 Leach Road, Dowagiac, MI with Father Kevin Covert officiating. A luncheon at the fellowship hall will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Tom’s name to Hospice at Home, 4017 Chamberlain Rd., Buchanan, MI 49107 or to Sacred Heart of Mary Maintenance Fund, Leach Rd., Dowagiac, MI 49047. Tom was born February 17th, 1955 in Benton Harbor, MI to Norman “Tom” and Frances (Suwarsky) Bisnett. He attended Dowagiac Union High School and graduated in 1973. He married Nikki Oprea on July 27, 1974 in Dowagiac. He was a lifelong resident of Dowagiac and worked on his farm, Blue Sky Farm, for over 22 years with U-pick strawberries as well as a fruit and vegetable stand. Tom enjoyed life itself, the outdoors, his family and friends, along with his passion for farming and the hunt for his antiques and collectables.
Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nikki (Oprea) Bisnett , two sons Ryan Bisnett of Grand Blanc MI and Adam (Harmony) Bisnett and grandsons Liam and Coen Bisnett of Mattawan MI, and his daughter Hillary Bisnett of Dowagiac. He also leaves behind his Mother, Frances Bisnett of Dowagiac, sisters Bev (Dennis) Dodd of Sister Lakes and Pam (Doug) Perin of Mishawaka, IN. Also surviving are his mother in law, Dorothy Smouse of Dowagiac, brothers in law, Jerry Oprea of Dowagiac, Darin (Jennifer) Smouse of Richmond VA, sisters in law Lori (Sonny) Dillingham of South Bend, IN and Debby Oprea (Michael) Wright of Ft Worth, TX and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Norman (Tom) Bisnett in 1997.
