Herbert Edward West

Herbert Edward West, 82, of Dowagiac, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at his home in Dowagiac surrounded by his loving family. Cremation will take place but no memorial service is planned. Herb was born December 23, 1932 in Three Oaks, MI to Clarence and Pearl (Morrison) West. He married Harriette Etter on April 7th, 1956 in Decatur at the First Church of God. He was a lifelong resident of Dowagiac and owned Herb’s Car Care. He also worked at Buchanan Industries. Herb proudly served in the United States Airforce during Korea. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles of Dowagiac. Herb loved his family and idolized his grandchildren. For over fifteen years he raised many foster children and helped them on the right path. Herb is survived by his loving wife, Harriette; by his children, Dawn (Dale) Killarney, Lee (Gail) West, Vicki (Larry) Ausra and a daughter-in-law, Norma Northrup, all of Dowagiac. He is also survived by 1 brother and 3 sisters; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Northrup; grandchildren, Darla Northrup and Joey Ausra; and 3 brothers. Clark Chapel & Cremation Services of Dowagiac is serving the family.
