Jimmie Thumm, 80, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Lakeland Continuing Care in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Market St. in St. Joseph with Pastor Thomas Batsky officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mr. Thumm was born January 17, 1929 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Nelson & Eleanor (Roberts) Thumm. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1947. He entered into the Army in 1952 and was discharged in 1960 serving in the Korean War. On September 4, 1954 he married Phyllis (Radde) Thumm in St. Joseph. He worked at A.B. Morse printer and for Whirlpool printing for 41 years before retiring. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with family and friends watching the Wizard of OZ and the show MASH. In his younger days he enjoyed tap dancing. Mr. Thumm is survived by his wife Phyllis Thumm of St. Joseph; one son David (Mary) Thumm of St. Joseph; two daughters Karen Thumm of St. Joseph and Linda (Dennis) Babechenko of Frankenmuth, Michigan; four grandchildren Jason (Rachael) Storm of St. Joseph, Aaron Thumm of St. Joseph, Niklas and Noelle Babechenko of Frankenmuth; one aunt Dorothy Kwast of St. Joseph; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Nelson Thumm Jr.
