Gloria's Obituary

Gloria Sobieski, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 15th, 2014 at home with her family surrounding her. Gloria was born to Charles and Goldie (Runyan) Light on December 12, 1934 in Michigan City, IN. On August 18, 1952 she married John Sobieski in Cassopolis. Together they raised two daughters, Gloria “Peachy” Koenig of Dowagiac and Katie (Gary) Peterson of Edwardsburg, as well as two sons, Tim (Cheryl) Sobieski of Dowagiac and Chuck (Denise) Sobieski of Dowagiac. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Becky, Lisa, Carrie, Chuckie, Carin, Cindy, Michelle and Crystal; also by 10 great grandchildren, Katelyn, Denny, Myndy, Gracelyn, Gabby, Johnathon, Audy, Ellie, Lila and Jesse. Gloria is also survived by one sister, Patricia (Tom) Keene of Dowagiac. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Tom of Niles, Charles and Eugene of Dowagiac and a sister Betty Snyder of Belvidere, IL. She attended the North Wayne Mennonite Church of Dowagiac and had a strong religious faith. Gloria grew up on a farm with her parents and after marrying her husband, moved to Dowagiac and continued her farming life. They raised four children on the farm and she was quite the 4-H mom to many of the children in the area. Her daughter likened her to the “Energizer Bunny”, always full of vim and vigor and never idle and always on the move. She enjoyed the Cass County 4-H Youth Fair and was a 4-H Horse Leader, teaching and mentoring children to ride and show horses. She was a long time member of the Cass County Sheriff’s Mounted Division. She also enjoyed crafts, including whiteware pottery. She was always crocheting baby blankets for all her grandkids and special friends. She was famous for her home made macaroni and cheese. Her sons, Chuck and Tim remember times when weather was bad with snow that their mother took them to school on a snowmobile. Gloria was said to be strict but at the same time a very loving and caring mother who always thought of others. She always had a place at her dining table for visitors. Her family will gather with friends on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center Street in Dowagiac. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m at Clark Chapel. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles. Memorial contributions may be directed to the North Wayne Mennonite Church,  SouthernCare Hospice or the Cass County Leaders Association. Please sign her guestbook and leave a memory of Gloria at www. clarkch.com.
