Lorraine Frances Kalinas

Lorraine F. Kalinas, 79, of St. Joseph, died Tuesday September 23, 2008 at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday September 26, 2008 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. Burial will be at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home, St. Joseph, MI care of the funeral home. Friends may call from 5-8 at Starks-Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Lorraine was born March 28, 1929 in Saginaw, Mi. She was a member of St. John/St. Bernard’s Parish. Lorraine graduated from the University of Michigan and obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from Michigan State University. She retired from teaching in 1986 from the Benton Harbor Area Schools. Lorraine had a passion for teaching others. She shared her ‘love of learning’ with her family, students and friends. Lorraine was a charter member of the St. Joseph Township Lioness Club. She was recognized as “Lioness of the Year” for her many contributions to this organization. Lorraine was married to Arthur Kalinas for 39 years. She is survived by her three daughters Deborah (Jay) Chandonnet of Troy, MI, Denise (Greg) Raklovits of St. Joseph, MI, Michelle (Todd) Hickam and her two sons, Mike Kalinas of St. Joseph and Kelly Kalinas of Benton Harbor. Her grandchildren were the ‘lights of her life’. They are: Ryan, Sarah, Ashley, Jenna, Matthew, Alexandra (Alex) Rachel and Chloe. Lastly, Jerry and Patricia Kremers of Eau Claire. A special thanks to Lorraine’s caretakers at Woodland Terrace. Their love and support for our family during this journey will never be forgotten.
