Clara's Obituary

At our Heavenly Father’s command, by the power of the Holy Spirit, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, an angel of the Lord came on September 30, 2014, in the early morning hour and received the Soul of his child, Mrs. Clara Mae, Baldwin. Mrs. Clara Baldwin was born May 7, 1921, in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, to the late Adella Lewis and Jim Houston.  Clara accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member of the Baptist Faith. Clara married the love of her life Mr. William Baldwin, on June 17, 1944, in Oktibbeha, County, Mississippi.  One son was born to this union, who preceded her in death.  In the 1950’s Clara and William moved to Chicago, IL, and then later to Cassopolis, MI.  Clara joined the Chain Lake Baptist Church, Cassopolis, MI, where she remained a member until her death. Clara was truly a devoted wife, who loved her husband dearly.  She was a loving devoted and compassionate caregiver to many, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.  There was no end to her generosity.  She enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking cakes, her specialty being “the coconut cake”, which many people enjoyed.  She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting. She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving husband of 70 years, Mr. William Baldwin, Muskegon, MI; one aunt-in-law – Georgia Brooks, Cincinnati, OH; five sisters-in-law – Lillie Jackson, Columbus, Mississippi, Daisy Balkin, Memphis, Tennessee, Odester Carter, Chicago, IL, Bonnie Baldwin, Chicago, Illinois, and Lee Baldwin, Brownsville TN; one brother-in-law – Charlie Stewart, Crawford, MS; a very loving and special niece and guardian – Sheila Ketchens (Milorad) Urbana, IL; a very loving and special “God Niece” – Linda Hairston, Muskegon, MI; two special nieces – Bobbie Jackson and Georgia Dismuke (Roosevelt), both of Columbus, MS; a special nephew – James Baldwin (Michaeline). Chicago, IL; a loving, dear and long time friend – Katherine Bland, Cassopolis, MI; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014, at Chain Lake Baptist Church, Cassopolis, MI.  Pastor Norman Tubbs will be officiating.  A gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. before the service.  Burial will be at Calvin Twp. Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Mr. William Baldwin, in care of Chain Lake Baptist Church.  Please take the opportunity to sign her guestbook and send a condolence or share a memory of Clara to www.clarkch.com.
