Philip's Obituary

Philip W. McDonald, Jr., 83, of Benton Harbor, passed away at home on Friday, April 18, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph, with Rev. Msgr. Michael Osborn as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Entombment will be in North Shore Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the YMCA Family Center, St. Joseph. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Philip was born on August 20, 1924, in Chicago, IL, to Philip and Loretta (Lollie Rooney) McDonald, Sr. He graduated from Watervliet High School and the University of Notre Dame and was an avid Notre Dame football fan. Philip married Lorraine Capizzo on Oct. 22, 1960, in Watervliet, MI. He was devoted to his family. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing softball, golfing, and going to the beach. He enjoyed the Big Band sound of Glenn Miller and summer cookouts. Philip retired as an accountant with the YMCA. Philip is survived by sons, Philip McDonald of St. Joseph, Joey McDonald of Chicago, IL, Michael (Sheila) McDonald of Chicago, IL, a daughter, Kristi Duncan of Cumming, Georgia; and a granddaughter, Taylor Duncan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Thomas McDonald and Jack McDonald.
