Richard H. Hasse, 76, of Stevensville & PO Box 517, Buchanan, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at his residence in Buchanan. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 2, 2007 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd., Stevensville with Rev. Gerald Schroer & Rev. Jonathan Kruschel officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph with military rites conducted by Galien American Legion Post #344. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Ministry Fund or Hospice at Home, 4017 Chamberlain Rd., Buchanan, MI 49107. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mr. Hasse was born January 5, 1931 in Baroda, Michigan to Emil & Elsie (Krieger) Hasse. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. On August 27, 1955, he married the former Lillian Schultz in Stevensville at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Rich was a mechanic by trade, holding employment at Manley Brothers in Bridgman, and retiring from Hasse’s Crane & Wrecker Service in Benton Harbor after many years. He loved to work with his hands, there was nothing that he couldn’t fix. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for over 50 years, where he served on the Finance Board and helped with the construction of the present church building. Rich was also a member of the Galien American Legion Post #344. He was a full time RV’er since 1993 and was a member of the Holiday Rambler Sunset Coast Chapter #422, the Good Sam St. Joseph Valley Hobos Chapter #17, and the Michigan Chapter #6 Escapees. Mr. Hasse is survived by his wife Lillian; his son James “Jim” (Norma) Hasse of Stevensville; two daughters-Denise Peel of Conroe, TX, Julie (George) Timmins of Magnolia, TX; four grandchildren with whom he especially enjoyed spending time-Jon Weidner, Jr., Jarrod Hasse, Brooke Timmins, Wade Timmins; three brothers-Erwin “Butch” (Dorothy) Hasse of Benton Harbor, Gerald (Evelyn) Hasse of Stevensville, Larry (Joanie) Hasse of Galien; four sisters-Lucille (Arthur) Grau of Stevensville, Marlene (Alvin) Deckert of St. Joseph, Carol Berndt of Baroda, Bonnie Hasse of Los Angelos, CA; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Herbert Hasse.
