Mary's Obituary

Mary Catherine Orlando, 86, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2006, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., on Thursday, October 19, 2006, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 555 Delaware, Benton Harbor, with Fr. Bill Jacobs, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with a Rosary at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church or Hospice at Home of St. Joseph. Mary was born Mary Catherine Forestieri on February 12, 1920 in Chicago, IL to Ciro and Concetta (D’Agro) Forestieri. Her father emigrated from Italy through Ellis Island after the turn of the century from Cefala Diana Palermo Province of Sicily. The family moved to Benton Harbor when Mary was two. She was one of four children. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School and Buchanan School of Cosmetology. Mary married George Orlando on November 3, 1959 in St. John Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. Mary is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Grace Orlando (Vincent) Miller of Kalamazoo; granddaughter, Mia Miller Orlando of Kalamazoo; brother, Giacino (Mary) Forestieri of Sodus; brothers-in-law, Joseph and Paul Orlando both of Riverside; sister-in-law, Frances (Marvin) Schaefer of Benton Harbor; nephews, John (Kathy) Forestieri of Benton Harbor, Paul (Jackie) Forestieri of St. Joseph, Thomas Forestieri of Seattle, WA, Ciro (Char) Farina of Stevensville, Paul (Jan) Orlando of AZ, Craig Orlando of Benton Harbor, Anthony (Stacey) Orlando of Riverside, Frank (Nancy) Orlando of Riverside, and Douglas Orlando of Kalamazoo; and nieces, Marybeth (Loren) McConachie of Seattle, WA, Chrisanne (Patrick) Stocker of France, Fortunate (Rich) Stockwell of Benton Harbor, Catherine (Jay) Forestieri of NC, Mary Forestieri of Eugene, OR, Jacquelyn (Doug) Tiefenbach of Stevensville, Gina Forestieri of Texas, and Laura Orlando of Boston, MA. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sebastian Forestieri; sister, Concetta Farina and brothers-in-law, Anthony Orlando and Russell Farina; and sister-in-law, Marge Forestieri.
